The Poetry Behind Bars Showcase was a unique and rewarding experience. Hearing the womens’ stories through spoken word was humanizing; Schai made a platform to give a voice to the voiceless which was simply beautiful and humbling.

You could feel the love in the room from all of the hugs and smiles exchanged between Schai and her students to Schai’s touching closing poem that she wrote for her students; individually giving them praise by their stage names.

It is obvious that she is exactly where she belongs; inside inspiring women to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m grateful that I get to be a witness to her journey and I can’t wait to see where she goes and what she does from here.
